It’s that time again.  IBM has announced this past month the end of support for Maximo V7.5 that will take effect on April 30, 2018.  If you are a Maximo veteran, you’ve seen this story before.  Your organization has invested quite a bit of time and money into buying and implementing a sound Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to fit your business needs. The implementation team gathers your business requirements, the software package is designed, built, tested, and deployed.  Once deployed, your team is off and running with a system configured explicitly for how you do business.

Lots of Questions

Most of the iterative software updates are optional for your business to adopt, but what happens when a new version is released?  Do you have to upgrade to the latest fix pack every time?  Often the answer to these questions is no, however, about once every seven years or so IBM will announce de-support for the legacy Maximo version.  What does this mean for your organization?

There are three options for Maximo V7.5.x after April 30th, 2018:

  1. You can continue using your Maximo V7.5.x licenses without a Subscription and Support (S&S) agreement which means:
  • No access to the latest release(s)
  • Access to the IBM Knowledge Center
  1. Renew your annual S&S with IBM or an authorized IBM Business Partner which means:
  • Access to the latest release(s)
  • Access to the IBM Knowledge Center
  • No IBM phone support
  1. Sign up for IBM Extended Support for Maximo V7.5.x which means:
  • Access to the latest release(s)
  • Access to the IBM Knowledge Center
  • IBM Phone Support

Customers under an S&S agreement with IBM or an authorized IBM Business Partner have access to the latest release of Maximo.  This will leave you with three likely upgrade options as follows:

Option 1 - A “Like for Like” technical upgrade

Option 2 - A “Functional” upgrade

Option 3 - An “Expanded Functional” upgrade
