Next week I will be attending the ESRI GeoConX 2017 conference in Chicago and am looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones while there. Of interest, on my agenda is the Birds of a Feather Session for Electric Distribution.
For those having not participated in this conference in the past, let me share that this is an excellent opportunity to meet with your peers, address many of the familiar challenges we face, and discover how others have leveraged the capabilities of ESRI to their benefit.
Having been around the block a time or two (32 years working in the industry) I always find it important to attend these sessions and listen to the passion and inspiration of my peers. What trends are they seeing and what new processes they are using to better prepare me to help my clients?
Today the most pressing trend I see is the need to leverage the integration of ESRI Spatial information with Enterprise Work and Asset Management systems. More and more I see the need to focus on not only tracking the high-volume assets such as transformers, meters, lights and poles, but being proactive in managing their reliability to a greater and greater degree. The increasing number of high technology devices required to monitor and control the system, only increases the challenge. This requirement can only be met with the accuracy, visibility, flexibility and interrelationship provided by GIS, coupled with the detail history of a robust work and asset management system. The advanced analytics provided by this synergy exceed what each system can provide alone. The bringing together of these two systems into a seamless, common design, construction, and installation lifecycle process, provides a solid foundation that insures the integrity of the data and the full history of each asset from cradle to grave.
A few topics I would not mind chatting with my colleagues about are:
- Advanced integration with Graphic Design Tools
- Complete Asset Lifecycle Management
- Seamless integration between EAM and ESRI
I have a lot on my mind, and maybe you do too. You can find me and Cohesive team members at booth #302 if you would like to stop by and say hello. We will be sharing a lot of recent successes at our booth too, such as:
- Spatial 7.6
- Anywhere Maps
- ArcGIS Collector
