SM_Employee Spotlight _ Stephen Miller

Because of the MaximoWorld conference at the top of the month, this was a very exciting month for Cohesive Solutions, and one team member, Stephen Miller. For the first time at the conference, MaximoWorld leaders recognized extraordinary achievements and team accomplishments in the Maximo community for practitioners and vendors. Cohesive Solutions is proud to be the Best New Implementation award recipient of ReliabilityWeb's 2019 award program. This award was accepted by Stephen, our Practice Leader of Energy and Utilities. He is this month’s August spotlight.

Briefly describe what you do in a day.

I have a concentrated focus on Oil and Gas Pipeline EAM improvement programs. I work hands-on with clients to ensure that the business processes they are following are both effective and efficient for how they uniquely operate to safeguard that the systems they use are configured to facilitate these processes. I recently recorded a webinar sharing how to use Maximo to support pipeline maintenance compliance activities.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I enjoy helping clients move up the maintenance maturity curve and seeing the result of our efforts have a positive impact on the people in the field. Understanding these changes are what makes it worth all the effort.

What’s the best thing about Cohesive?

In my opinion, the best thing about Cohesive is the comradery – everyone is working on different aspects of the same project, or even different projects but with similar goals. When I need to tap into a wealth of knowledge, it's there! In one e-mail, one phone call I can open a discussion and add decades plus of experience into a client solution.

What’s been one of your proudest moments working at Cohesive?

Winning the MaximoWorld award for Best New Implementation was definitely a highlight. This award process forced me to step back and look at all we have accomplished as a company, all too often, we get caught up in the day-to-day. Pausing and appreciating all of the impressive implementations we have completed, the number of daily lives we have impacted, it's undoubtedly a great feeling.

What do you like to do when you’re not at the office?

My passion outside of work is around my family and racing, and we mix it too!  I've been a part of the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) for around 20 years, and active on the operations part for nearly five years.  I operate the Junior Driver Development program for both North and South Carolina regions, Chair the Time Trial program for North Carolina, and am on the South Carolina Region Board of Directors.

What inspires you?

The opportunity to make a difference in how companies operate and ultimately impact the day-to-day work of so many people.  It is a fantastic feeling to go into work every day knowing WHAT you're going to do, and yet so many organizations are so reactive their workforce has never experienced that.  Being able to bring that experience to the table and the ability to guide them from where they are now to where they can be that is what drives me to do what I do.

Fill in the blank: I once met…

I once went to a Beach Boys concert and got seated next to the producers, and long story short ended up spending the evening backstage with the band.

What are five words (or less) of advice for others in your profession?

Integrity is what matters.

Stephen is one of the organization’s key contributors to our Assessments offering. This offering helps enhance your operations and maintenance organization allowing you to address critical issues. We help you reach your true potential through the optimization of people, processes, and technology with innovative leadership strategies.
